Advances in image-based biomechanics of the human ankle
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Medical Imaging techniques including CT, MRI, Micro-CT and micro-MRI have matured over the last years into affordable, practical and accessible observational tools to the Biomechanics community. These tools provide unique opportunities to expand the knowledge of the biomechanics of the human foot and ankle. The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate the potential of these imaging techniques through three specific applications from our current research.

The effect of knee orthosis on co-contraction values of knee and ankle muscles during running in people with knee deformity in the frontal plane.
Background and Aims: the use of knee orthosis changes the mechanics of running. One of the important biomechanical factors in rehabilitation and injury prevention is co-contraction of knee and ankle joints. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of knee orthosis on changes in the contraction of knee and ankle muscles during running in people with genu varum. Mat...

Introduction: Although chronic ankle instability (CAI) is a condition characterized by numerous ankle sprains and the recurring sensation of ankle instability, which result in activity limitations and participation restrictions. Repetition based balance training protocols on type of the balance exercises may improve the deficits often associated with CAI. The objective of this study was to dete...
متن کاملEvaluation of a Viscoelastic Ankle-Foot Prosthesis at Slow and Normal Walking Speeds on an Able-Bodied Subject
Objectives: This paper describes further improvement and preliminarily evaluation of a novel viscoelastic ankle-foot prosthesis prototype. The objective was to control the ankle hysteresis at slow and normal walking speeds. Methods: Inspired by the ankle biomechanics, in which the hysteresis differs based on the gait speeds, a manually damping control mechanism imbedded in the prosthesis for...
متن کاملThe mutual effect of navicular drop and the type of foot covering on the contact forces of ankle and knee joints during running
Introduction: One of the best interventions in the field of reducing injury and improving performance is running shoes. Despite this, the research results show that achieving the desired result due to using shoes depends on paying attention to other influencing factors such as foot structure. Therefore, the present study was carried out with the aim of investigating the mutual effect of navicul...
